Yesterday I woke up early, because it seems I am getting too used to waking up at 8:00. Which could be useful when we have to get jobs. Anyway. Woke up, then at around 11:00 (guess who didn't get up at 8:00? :) went for a walk around Vancouver downtown. Went to Lush, which was very cool. What's more, they were playing a Brigitte Bardot CD, so Bonnie & Clyde was playing when we walked in. That's my kind of shopping experience. (The CD seemed to be Best of B.B., but they skipped Je T'Aime, it seems, which I suppose may have been just a bit much.)
Then walked over towards the harbour, and then down Pender towards Chinatown, because we were hungry (and cranky). Went to Park Lock on Main St in Chinatown for lunch--very good dim sum. Had some little pork dumplings, pork & peanut things, wonton soup, very good pork buns, and these really good phyllo-dough barbecued pork buns. All very good.
We walked back through Gastown and took an old-time portrait: me as a mountie and Mena as my lady. Very Canada. It was fun; Mena isn't that happy with herself in the portrait and wishes she were an Indian instead, which would've worked a bit better with her natural hair.
BTW yesterday Mena finally realized that she forgot her poncho. Which indicates, of course, that she didn't really need to bring it. But the poor sad poncho is just sitting at home somewhere, all depressed. Annie is probably lying on it.
We then walked to the public library which is way cool and just huge. We used the visitor internet stations, 30 minutes each, and checked email etc. There was this annoying righteous little guy who was really intent on getting on a computer. People were intense about it in general because the library was closing very soon.
On the walk back to the hotel (despite the fact that she did not like the way she looked in the wig for the historical photo) Mena bought a wig. It's nice, althought the purple-red streaks are a bit bright and, dare I say, unnatural. She looks good in it--better than in the other ones she tried on, with curls, which were really fake looking.
Then we went out to dinner (Mena wearing her new purchase) to Thai House. Good soup (chicken coconut), disappointing Mee Krob, good spring rolls, and some vegetables and tofu in red coconut curry. So much vegetable and tofu. As big as a soup.
