Location: Vancouver, BC
After getting off the ferry, we drove back through Anacortes to I-5, first stopping at McDonald's go use the bathroom. We hadn't been to McDonald's for about 7 months, and we were quite proud of ourselves for that fact; so it was a disappointment to cave to the pressure. But then we looked at it as us using McDonald's for its bathroom (in the sense that we benefit, and McDonald's doesn't). And since we were there, we also used it for some beef-fat-flavored french fries.
Then we drove north on I-5 to the border town of Blaine (!) where we saw the Peace Arch and a gorgeous sunset, all while listening to "Canadian Sunset". We crossed the border, where apparently we were not very suspicious.
The drive into Vancouver was dark and uneventful, though at the point of some bridge before a tunnel there was a lot of annoying traffic (or "volume"). We were pleased to see that British Columbians are not very receptive to people trying to cut them off by speeding through the blocked lane to merge later than they're supposed to--not one car was let in.
In Vancouver, we checked into our hotel (Pacific Palisades), then went to dinner at Saigon. Good hot & sour shrimp soup and combination places. We bought ice cream sundaes at Cow's, where Mena betrayed our citizenship (on non-) when she said, "hey, these are Canadian prices--we can get two sundaes!" rather loudly. As if the Canadians aren't already upset enough about the sad state of their depressed dollar. It is kind of neat to see the difference in dollar valuation, though, at least from our perspective.
